The Product of Playing Gunbound Too Much, Looking at an SSBM FAQ/Walkthrough, and Thinking of How to Make Roll Next Better ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you haven't come up with a solid formula for how to score each run or grant money for the score, here's something I came up with while thinking about
I was taking damage, then I got healing items, and noticed I was back at full health... which made me think of bonuses for taking no damage vs. ending the stage with full health... which reminded me of Super Smash Brothers! And I was thinking... in addition to things based on damage received, enemies killed, etc.... you can also have additional bonuses to earn more cash! So, I surfed GameFAQs for SSBM, and here's a list of a few that could be implemented, or modified versions that could be used. Some could require much addition to the code to keep track of these things. "Sky Goddess" (Only attacks that were made were from a jump or while in the air) "Earth Goddess" (Only attacks that were made were all while on the ground) "No Specials" (Never used the Special Attack) "No Dash" (Never used the Dash) "No Regular Attacks" (Never used regular attacks) "Only Regular Attacks" (Only used Regular Attacks, no Dash, no Special) "Full Energy" (End stage with full health) "No Damage" (Took no damage, ever) "Perfect Aim" (Never missed a shot) "Ambler" (Never stood still;Always was moving at some point) "Pacifist" (Didn't attack while in the general stage; boss is an exception) "Multi-KO" (Killed multiple enemies in a single finishing attack)
Then, I started thinking about the Store, and about the wardrobes... and while thinking about them, I thought about Gunbound for a bit... where you have clothing which enhances stats. So I was thinking... different costumes could provide different benefits! There are a variety of stats you could increase/decrease with various outfits, such as Land Speed, Jump Height, Attack Damage, Special Damage, Defense, Weapon Energy Consumption, Dash Energy Recharge, Dash Energy Consumption, Vampirism (or Sacrificing if negative), Life Energy, Weapon Energy, Dash Energy (these three mean additional or less hearts), and even more! You can even have character specific additions, like faster Dashing for Roll.
Of course, as I say this, I'm probably half asleep and thus crazy, but hey, why not suggest?
]UPDATE[ Some more points to my costume/enhance-decrease stats thing. First off, a single costume can modify multiple stats at once, so you could have one that increases both Land Speed and Jumping Height, but, say, lowers Dash Energy Recharge; or one which increases attack but lowers defense; etc.. Second, each girl can have their own unique set of costumes that modify stats. Third, the original idea which sparked this costume idea was killing enemies and getting items, which provides 2 more possibly modifyable stats: Item Abundance (higher/lower the stat, the more/less often you get an item for a kill) and Item Efficiency (higher/lower the stat, the more/less you recover from picking up an item). The final thing is, if you do this, you don't even need a Power-Up section. You can still offer One-Ups, Continues, and E-Tanks and such in the store, but you might not need a whole "Power-Up" section in the stage select anymore.

The outfit thing's okay. Hell, it's really cool IMHO. But do you realize that almost no one can achieve a "No Damage Clear" on SSBM? And since even some of the the small fry in THIS game could knock Giga Bowser for a loop, how in the blue hell do you expect even YOURSELF to pull off such a godlike stunt on Roll Next?! Get some sleep before you get us all pwned to death, Boss! PLEASE!
Besides, it would require WAY too much precise monitoring of the game's data, which would probably cause errors resulting in either players getting bonuses they didn't earn, or (MUCH more likely BTW) players not getting the bonuses they SHOULD'VE earned. It'd be far too much coding, even for this game's engine. Mantis, you need to stop trying to think with a half-asleep brain: you're flipping KILLIN' us, man! >_<
Okay, now that I've been thinking about it, your insane bonus idea would be just fine for getting cash, but please, for the love of God & all that dwell with Him in Heaven, do NOT tie earning a bonus to earning a cheat code, Wade! There is a limit to what most sane people can tolerate in terms of spiteful programming. That limit is NOT there to be broken.

I played it on the wide screen and it just flows like a dream. This may just be me but it seems to run faster on high quality than on low quality. It is not supposed to be that way right. The only place I experienced lag on were on the places were the waterfalls hit the water in Tami's stage. The King Crab Force battle is really fast now. <Why do those first few lines happen to sound EXACTLY like what I said in a previous post? Perhaps my computer isn't weird...> -SM The stage with the best music is first part of Cyan's stage. The stage select music is also pretty good. Why don't you have any heavy metal?

Yeah, I've also noticed that setting the quality does nothing for the screen's clarity: it just pumps caffine into all the baddies' systems! Do you realize how sick & evil this makes the Hero Crab Force?!

note on characters: roll is very accurate, but has an ineffician special attack. Jazz needs more power for her sparks, as they are weak and hard to use accurately. Cyan is a difficult character, but has a powerful attack, as well as the rising ladder kick of doom. Tami is a good all-around character, strong special but weak normal make for some interesting uses. also has the ultimate anit-mad grinder move, the overhgead jet followed by a chainsaw up the rear. Shin is a weaker character, but is good at dodging and terrain beating. nice special. KZ10 is a good character, great dash, good attack, but not a very useful special. good for one-on-one, but weaker at meelee.

Procrastinated? I think you mean "obscenely overpowered." Anyway, I'm afraid that yes, the absurd amount of crabage will remain in the game, unless by some chance Wade manages to overload the game's engine. But then again, he's become obsessed with em, so there's no telling what meaningful features he'll sacrifice to keep the crabs in the game.

Arghhhhh... so many things flowing around. Well at the moment, the scoring method I was going to use was going to be pretty simple. - Every time you take a hit your score goes down. - If you die your score takes a nasty hit. (Though if you continue you don't get a score since you have to redo the stage)- Stages and bosses would be scored individually. - Difficulty won't change the payout rate (because I'm evil). Though in the end you may recieve a final score based on how well you did and on the difficulty. - Extra stages and bosses are just there for eye candy, bragging rights, and replay value. You'd go mad running through the same stages over and over again trying to get the $$$ to unlock everything. At home Snake Man's stage is up and running with 4 sections too ^_^ ============================== ShaMan: Dear god... the sheer number of sugestions Roll: Woodman's stage is up to 4 sections done at home. The bonus stages are only going to have 8-10 sections though. The extras will be available in my versions of the game. The versions that go to other sites will be nerfed and have dang near all the good stuff stripped out of them leaving just the base game to get the filesize <5mb

If even necessary, I'll work with ya on designing outfit stat sets, or even outfit ideas.
And it was only 2 suggestions! They were just... very big suggestions.

Now that's the most sensical thing I've heard since the whole crab business started up.

really awesome idea: customize characters. i'd love to try a character with shin's mobility, tami's chainsaw, KZ10's gun, and KZ10, tami, jazz or roll's dash.
also, please lower the energy cost of cyan's wall cling. it's not a cheese perventor, it's just annoying. you can go anywhere that has walls anyway, just make it not take forever.

In real life, climbing walls with only your hands and feet is a VERY long process... you can get very far and then you'll need to rest a bit. The high energy cost emulates it darn well if you ask me.
Also, you'll have to think about its usefulness in boss fights, which from my experience in a certain Gameboy game (don't know the English name, but a certain character had the same ability to wall-cling, but with no energy cost), is a very, very useful skill.

Unlike the rest of us, Wade has an actual job, so he can't just churn out updates every night. Let's be glad he's not as swamped as IRA always is, what with him being a college professor. It's a wonder he ever gets anything done, the poor guy.
Hang on a second... Gamma! Wade, you could make GAMMA one of the Pg3 levels! That would kick so much arse I can't even begin to explain it. I beg of you, Wade, at least consider it!

I aim to do an update tonight.

(Psst... mind at least informing me of what you think of my costume idea?)
]B.R.[ First off, no infinite stats from costumes. That's what cheat codes are for. Instead, it's little stat modifications, and balanced ones. Like, increase two stats by a few points while decreasing another slightly.

That would work, I guess: maybe Jazz could have a spare armor from Bass that lets removes the darn stall that happens every other second from her Air-Glide Boots. In exchange for that, you could make "Forte's Spare Armor" the most expensive outfit Jazz can buy (probably around $1000 since killing baddies won't get you squat & the scoring system is designed to scrooge you).
And I think Gamma would be a COOL side boss: imagine Roll proving her worth by taking down the most powerful warbot Light ever constructed; imagine the joy on Wily's old face as Jazz pries open the control cabin & sweetly says, "I win, Daddy"; think of Cyan's fist shaking triumphantly in the air as her creators cheer, their doubts smashed to pieces with Gamma's nigh-invincible armor; and imagine the pride of the FCPD when KZ10 drags Wily into the local precinct to book him.
Those kind of images make this idea KICK ASS.
YIPIIIIIEEEEE!!!!!

adding to gamma's point, imagine how shin would feel as she proved herself to her makers by bringing down something much bigger than her, or tami's noting the irony as she rescues wily form the c0ckpit.
also, would it be possible for wade to update now?

YAY!!! The big lug has a chance! ^_^ Anyway, I'll elaborate on my Graidus idea, now.
Gradius: Enter the King Crab Force Story: It's a d@mn side show, so of course there's no story! Gameplay: Sidescrolling shooter in the style of Gradius & R-Type Player characters: the King Crab Force, ???????? (during the boss fight)
Attacks Crusher: Dark Doom Cannon (Black) Normal: Lock-on Spark Missiles (Green) Special: Magma Bombs (Red) Jump: Diving Body Slam (Yellow) Dash: Teleport Slash (Blue)
Blast your way through various flight-capable Wily-bots (Windman, Tenguman, Astroman ETC) & various other aerial combat robots on the way to Skull Castle, where you'll have to face off against Fusion Bass. (Or Wily in his shuttle since Treble's dead, but these things're supposed to be non-essential filler, right?) Once it's boss time, something happens... and the battle gets ugly REAL quick for Wily/Bass. ^_^#nosmileys

Tsunami Drake's stage was mainly plagued by the mysterious slowdown effect that hurt most of the later stages. Gorillon's was the first made, and thus had the least slowdown.
This engine eliminates all of that.
