I just got the Collectors Edition of Halo: Reach from Gamestop for only $20 out of pocket. Get this, it was brand new and unopened, but no one had bought it. It's like it was just sitting there, waiting for me. Funny thing is, I walked in wanting to get Halo 2. The cashier told me, "No, you don't want that, you want THIS," and came out of the back room with the case.
Am I ****ing lucky or what?! I'm already cooking up maps in Forge World.

I miss the RP fourm. I miss Piney, Baerk, Dar, and the others. Am I the only guy from the development cycle of MMXN that's still here?

I see others pop in occasionally on the "active in past 24 hours" part, but since things are slooooooooow here can't imagine to much reason to hang around.

Piney has been AWOL for nearly two years. Where could he've gone...

I'm still hanging around myself. It's nice to see the comic going forward at all atleast. Maybe I should pop into AIM more often... It's a shame Diablo 2 and Touhou are best played full screen. Although I've worked myself to the point i've been starting to do easy modes in touhou with no continues it still doesn't change the fact that danmaku is intensely challenging.

Comic should be pseudo consistent now at least, only big breaks will be for other projects.
Piney left me addicted to Touhou music... the remixes you can find for that series are probably some of the best I've ever heard.
Final Fantasy 13-2 and the old school retro ones are eating up the rest of my free time at the moment.

Ooooo, looks like NG up'd the filesize allowed to 20mb from what I last remember to be 15mb. Time to figure out another 5mb of stuff to cram in MMNR >.>

Proboards is updating their service. Message I got about it was: "ProBoards is thrilled to announce that we are now offering an exclusive opportunity to all forum owners. We now officially support two new domain names for your forum: username.boards.net and username.freeforums.net!"So appears that this place will simply become maelstormm.proboards.com rather than the old URL.

It's a nice lil application as long as you have the time and money to get started with it. Lots of opportunity out there on the web for it.

I'm mostly a solo act, but I'll link ya if you make some decent stuff. Just make sure you get into programming because it's something "you" genuinely wanna do, not just cause you see others doing it.

What I'm trying to say is make sure it's the process of creation you aim to enjoy, not just the end result. There's a zillion creations (comics/games/stories/etc) where people rush off with the best intentions, but realize the actual creation process isn't so glamorous so they end up quitting, often very soon after starting. Just want you to be sure your hearts in the right place if you decide to dive into this stuff.
A long long time ago (somewhere around 1990), in a house coincidentally 1 block away (aka my aunts house), my cousins got a NES and I immediately became hooked. A bit after that I saw Mega Man 2 in a sales paper and wanted it. That year for either my birthday or christmas my popsickle got me a NES and MM2. I played that game so much that I could literally recite the credits and decided I wanted to do stuff like that later. So in middle & high school I poked around with Logowriter and Turbo Pascal. Given I had no time, money, or interest in college after high school I had to pick things up on my own when I could get my hands of stuff (given the internet hadn't gone completely mainstream at the time). I had been writing little comics and characters since like 2nd grade (thus Yoshida Aggamare is probably older than some forum members lol) and ran/played a lot of old school pen and paper RPG's over the years, so it all started to finally congeal. So after life had finally settled down a bit once I turned 21'ish, I finally had time to pursue my hobby and the rest is history pretty much.
So given I have no clue about your background, I'm just going to throw a bunch of stuff at you here. I don't want it sound like I'm trying to deter you here, cause I'm not, and if you already have/know these things then just ignore the rest of the post, but otherwise wanna give you food for thought.
- How much do you enjoy math? If you intend to make games, you will need to use math and tons upon tons of it in nearly every way imaginable. - What programming languages do you know already? If not you will need to learn the one relevant to your chosen program. Thankfully nowadays there are plenty of tutorials online that can help with this part. - Though Flash is a nifty program, is that definitely the media format you would want to use? What about Java? Other languages like the various C languages can do miracles if you know how to use them. If you're just breaking into the game making scene, programs like Game Maker can give you a good solid running start. - How much time do you have to allocate to the project? Making custom sprite sheets, time to render movies, time to learn new programming tricks, and more can quickly eat up entire days (months, years, etc). Counting time to make the backgrounds for Clouds fight with Shinra recently in RA:Legends, it probably took me 8 hours or so. A stage of MMNR from the doing the level layout on paper, making the graphics, getting it into flash, and debugging it can easily take 12 hours. None of that's counting the time spent learning how to do those things in the first place. - How do you intend to get your graphics? Will you draw them by hand, download sprite sheets of other characters, or make your own? If you intend to do 3D graphics, do you have models already? Do you already have access to the programs required? For image formats do you know the perks of the basic image formats like GIF's, JPEG's, and PNG's? - Have you used compression on movie and sound clips before to retain quality vs filesize? - Have you written stories before? Most continuous comics or lengthy games will require some sort of a plot. If you are aiming for something really spectacular it will require a lot of fleshing out of what's going on. - If the game/comic is going to be made available to the public, how well do you handle criticism? For someone like me who has virtually no empathy, enjoys reverse trolling, and only cares about what I think... bad criticism (or any criticism at all) has never really mattered. Other people (especially when just starting out) can quickly get the wind knocked out of their sails. - This is probably the most important of all this rambling and can often outweigh poor quality of a given media type. Does it have a solid well thought out design at it's core? This is somewhat subject to opinion and target audience, but overall you can tell when someone put genuine love and effort into something. A game may have a clunky controls, but has a interesting story and mechanics. A comic may be a random mishmash of poorly cropped gif's on a flat background color but makes you smile consistently due to witty writing. As opposed to the comic with awesome character's but never seems to go anywhere or no plot that ties them to the world or a game that looks and plays beautifully but you lose interest in the first hour since it just doesn't engage you properly.
So again, just things to consider. If you are already a awesome artist/programmer/animator, then disregard a huge chunk of that and get me a link to goodies when you can <3 If you aren't already good at those things it's fine, nobody is at first. As one of my boss people says, It's a matter of Skill vs Will. You can teach Skill but you can't teach Will. So as long as you genuinely have the Will to learn the stuff, the Skill part will come in time.

I think i understand some of the details you put on here, not all of it though, like writing the story part of it, i have never written a story before but i'm willing to try it, Thanks for laying out this stuff, now i understand the pain and time you have to do for these awesome games/comics you do -_-.

um, When you got into flash animation and drawing, did you had to take classes in order to do what you're doing now today?

I grew up drawing all manner of things, usually fantasy stuff like dragons and eventually anything else I was entertained by (My mom and dad both could scribble some pictures so guess a bit of it wore off on me). I didn't take any art classes really beyond high school.
The animation & programming stuff I picked up on my own by thumbing through help documents, tutorials, and the like in my free time. No schooling on any of the stuff, just bought it and started tinkering.

Whatchu talkin bout, $600 is a normal price for high end professional software. There are plenty of others that cost well over $1000 (Maya 3D is like $3500 or so). With Adobe nowadays though, if you do not have any pre-existing licenses with them, it's probably far more beneficial to get their Creative Cloud package. www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html?promoid=JQPEQIt's $50 a month (with contract), but gives you access to more programs than their Master Collection ($2600 value). So for $600 a year you can have access to over 20 programs both big and small and unlimited updates. www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/buying-guide.htmlOnce I get ready to dive into new stuff beyond MMNR I'm going to be picking that up myself. Can't argue with $600 a year for anyone who's serious about doing this stuff.

Ok, its impossible to beat the NES megaman games on only one life, its extremely frustrating and painfull to do the enitre game over again. i think only true gamers can beat it with only one life. also which boss do you think is the hardest in megaman 1-6.

I'm guessing that ye mean without using special weapons.
Elec Man, just cause he was fast and hit like a truck.
Air Man or Quick Man, one has annoying air patterns the other was all jumpy.
Shadow Man, cause of the timing.
Drill Man or Ring Man, cause of the timing.
All about the same for 5 and 6. If you had okay timing and pattern recognition they were all pretty easy.

I'm guessing with your absence that either you were completly busy with the MMNR stuff/comic making or mother nature put a dent in your work bench lol
